Things to do in Sóller to beat the heat: the best ways to cool down

Summer in Sóller is the perfect time to discover the charm of the Serra de Tramuntana, but the high temperatures mean it’s a good idea to adjust your plans for the day. Fortunately, the valley offers plenty of alternatives for enjoying yourself without suffering the heat: museums, gardens, shaded walks, the historic tram to Port de Sóller or a refreshing break by the sea. Find out what to do in Sóller when the heat is on and make the most of your visit.

When the heat really kicks in in Sóller, there’s no need to miss out on enjoying the town. The best thing to do is to adjust your schedule and look for things to do in the shade or indoors.

Here are some of the best options:

Visit Can Prunera. Its collection of Modernist and contemporary art can be enjoyed in an air-conditioned historic building, ideal for the middle of the day.

Discover the Sóller Museum. A leisurely visit to learn about the valley’s history and heritage.

Take a stroll through the MUCBO | Jardí Botànic and the MUCBO | Museu Balear de Ciències Naturals. The gardens offer shaded areas and the museum is a great place to escape the heat.

Take a break in an air-conditioned café, such as Coccum Specialty Coffee & Brunch, or enjoy a cool drink in the Plaza de la Constitución.

Hop on the historic tram to Port de Sóller and save the seafront promenade for late afternoon, when the sea breeze makes walking much more pleasant.

Go for a swim at Port de Sóller beach first thing in the morning or at sunset. As well as cooling off, you’ll be able to enjoy the seafront promenade in a much more relaxed atmosphere.

Book a tour of Ecovinyassa. The orange groves provide natural shade, and tours are usually timed to avoid the hottest part of the day.

Ideal schedule for a summer’s day

08:00–11:00: a stroll through the old town, the market (if it’s a Saturday) or a short walk.

11.00–16.30: museums, botanical gardens, shopping or a long, leisurely lunch.

17:30–20:30: Port de Sóller, the beach, kayaking or a boat trip.

21:00 onwards: dinner al fresco and a stroll around the square or the harbour.

This sort of schedule allows you to enjoy Sóller even on the hottest days, whilst avoiding the peak hours of sunshine.
