Flavours of Sóller
If there is one fruit that defines the Sóller Valley, it is undoubtedly the orange. For centuries, this citrus fruit has been the backbone of the local economy, traveling by boat to France and other corners of Europe from the port of Sóller. Today, it remains a symbol of our land, an experience not to be missed during your visit.
A Valley Bathed in Orange Blossom
The orchards surrounding Sóller paint the landscape green and orange, especially during the winter and spring months. When the orange trees bloom, the air is filled with the delicate scent of orange blossom, a unique fragrance that enchants anyone strolling through the valley.
More Than a Flavor, a Tradition
The oranges of Sóller stand out for their sweetness and juiciness, a result of a special microclimate protected by the Serra de Tramuntana. They are used to make freshly squeezed juices, artisanal jams, and desserts that you can enjoy in cafés, local markets, and, of course, in our hotels. All our breakfasts feature, as it should be, fresh orange juice and Sóller oranges.
The Types of Oranges in Sóller
Different varieties are cultivated in the valley, each with its own charm:
Canoneta: the most emblematic of Sóller, sweet, juicy, and perfect for juice.
Navelina: large and seedless, ideal for eating fresh.
Washington Navel: very aromatic, with tender pulp and a balanced flavor.
Navel Lane Late: ripens later, allowing oranges to be enjoyed well into spring.
Valencia Late: very juicy and refreshing, perfect for the warmer months.
An Authentic Experience
We invite you to get lost among the rural paths that wind through the orchards, discover the history of the “Orange Route,” or visit the Sóller Cooperative. You can also visit Ecovinyassa, an organic farm in the heart of the valley, where oranges and lemons are cultivated sustainably, and where visitors can stroll among the trees, learn about citrus traditions, and taste local products.
Visiting Sóller is much more than enjoying the mountains and the sea: it is about tasting the essence of Mallorca in every slice of orange.
